A Little About Me
Hi! I'm so glad you're here. I'm Beth Conlon, PhD, RDN, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and mom of 3 littles (who all eat very differently!). I have worked for over 12 years in pediatric and family nutrition in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, schools, and research. In November 2020 I opened my private nutrition practice, From the Start Nutrition, LLC, located in New Jersey. Explore the services on my website and when you're ready, get started by contacting me! I look forward to working with you.
HELLO, I'M BETH CONLON, PHD, RDN
Why I became a dietitian
I vividly remember the day that I first realized that my body wasn't good enough. It was a feeling that I had never experienced before, and it left such a strong impression on me that I eventually decided to pursue a career in nutrition. I was 8 years out and at my annual wellness checkup. I heard the physician tell my mom, "your daughter needs to lose weight." I was so confused. I liked my body. Nothing was wrong with it..... or was there? Maybe I did need to lose weight? Were my thighs too big? Was my stomach too round? That's when the first thoughts of poor body image crept into my mind, that would later fuel nearly two decades of disordered eating.
It wasn't until many years later that I realized just how much that moment had impacted me. The awful feeling that I needed to change how I ate and my body because "it wasn't good enough," left a lasting impression on me that eventually steered me towards pursuing a career in nutrition. I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others feel confident in their nutrition and happy in their own body.
Let me tell you, being a registered dietitian nutritionist is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done! Since the start of my dietetics education, my interests expanded into pediatric and family nutrition because nutrition habits and behaviors form in early childhood. I am passionate about helping as many people as people form good nutrition habits, behaviors, and beliefs, from the start, to not only prevent disordered eating and eating disorders, but also many chronic diseases.
Every day, I get to work with people who are struggling with eating and their relationship to food, and help them find ways to learn to enjoy food and love themselves. It's an amazing feeling to see someone finally break free from the negative thoughts and behaviors that have been holding them back - or to see a child who will only eat 5 foods at most, learn to like another food (and more!).
If you're feeling lost when it comes to your or your loved one's nutrition or body image, know that you are not alone. But more importantly, know that there is hope! With the help of a qualified dietitian like myself, you can finally start making progress towards good nutrition and nourishment. Don't hesitate any longer – reach out today for guidance and support!
